Berhampur: In a tragic event, a 45-year-old woman along with her son and daughter reportedly took their own lives by ingesting rice contaminated with pesticide in the Ganjam district of Odisha, as confirmed by local authorities on Monday.
This unfortunate incident occurred in Palibandha village, under the jurisdiction of the Ganjam police station.
The victims have been identified as S Mama Reddy (45), her son Rakesh (21), who was pursuing a diploma in engineering, and her daughter Meena (18), a student in class 12, according to police reports.
The woman's husband, S Rabindra Kumar Reddy, had passed away approximately three years prior.
Authorities discovered pesticide packets at their residence, which are believed to have been used in the rice they consumed.
While the precise motive behind this tragic act remains unclear, initial investigations suggest that frequent disputes between the woman and her son may have contributed to their decision, stated Ganjam Superintendent of Police Suvendu Kumar Patra.
Villagers promptly transported the three individuals to Chhatrapur Sub-divisional Hospital, from where they were later referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Sadly, the woman and her son succumbed to their condition during the night, while the daughter passed away early on Monday morning.
